Broken window syndrome
Bud Bergquist,
Canoga Park Improvement Association
Recently many Canoga Park businesses were hit by storefront window etching vandals. They left a trail of scarred windows in our area that is a blight on the business district.
Research shows that communities deteriorate quickly if even small problems go unattended. It’s called the broken window syndrome.
With the recent capture of some local graffiti thugs, we have seen tagging incidents drop dramatically. So we think now is the time to clean up and get the etched windows replaced.
Every day the BID is faced with many problems in Canoga Park, like graffiti and trash. The BID has taken a strong stand to clean up our area and keep the vandals out.
The BID is now in the process of finding sources to aid in this window replacement. We have asked three vendors to give us quotes on repairing and/or replacing etched and scratched storefront windows… and we are seeking financial assistance from qualified sources to defray the costs to you by as much as 50%.
Your windows may be replaced with glass and covered with a clear film. This film is designed to peel away and be replaced (if your glass is attacked again) at a fraction of the cost of replacing the glass itself.
If you wish to participate in the program, it will be necessary to measure your glass and get a quote for the repair. This quote is non-binding but it should be a cost substantially lower than if you were to contract the work yourself…
Please contact Mary Paterson, Executive Director of the BID for complete details of the program. (818) 346-7480. We urge you to do it NOW!
